Here is the start of the next card. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Death is represented in armour and carrying a banner. I’ve never been a fan of that look so I decided to go with a more traditional take on the reaper. It probably also has to do with being a dedicated fan of the Discworld novels by Sir Terry Pratchett. If anyone is curious, the name of the horse is “Binky”.
I’ll post another update as it progresses.
In case anyone was wondering, the project is still moving forward. I’ve added the rest of the figures and mostly shaded the horse. I still need to complete the landscape and do the shading before I can start the colour process. There’s been a lot going on at work the last couple of weeks and a lot on the homefront as well. All of which is to say, while the movement may be slow, there is still movement. Stay tuned for the next steps.
It’s finally done! Symbolizing great change, new beginnings and reinvention, this often mis-interpreted card is actually one of hope for people struggling in adversity.
About the only thing I kept from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck was the overall theme and sense of the composition. I wanted the emphasis to be as much on the new beginning of the sunrise, as the ending symbolized by the reaper.
Now, on to the next card!
