Welcome to the online home of GreenApe Studio Illustration and Design
Along with the Tarot project, there will also be posts of other works that I create both in digital and traditional media. Above is an ink drawing I did from a photo I took of a heron while on vacation in 2022.
What’s this all about then?
As a lifelong creative, I’ve been drawing, painting, sculpting, wood carving and crafting for as long as I can remember. My current focus is on illustrating a full set of Tarot cards. Having found massive inspiration and plenty of practical help online, I have decided to share the project and some of my process on this page in the hope that I may provide the kind of inspiration and help that I have received from so many.
GreenApe Tarot Project
Many years ago, I worked in a used book store called Browser’s Books and Things. Back then the “New Age” movement was gaining traction and with time, the “Things” part of the name included crystal balls, semi-precious gems, books on magic and witchcraft and of course, Tarot cards. I’ve never really bought into the whole fortune-telling side of them. At the same time, I have always been fascinated by the imagery and symbolism of the cards. Specifically, the classic Rider-Waite deck illustrated by Pamela Coleman Smith.
Over the years, as I developed my own style as an illustrator I often thought that one day I might like to create my own set of Tarot card designs. After putting it off for some time (okay, quite a lot of time) I finally feel that I am at a point where I can do justice to the idea.
What does a Green Ape do?

This is the style of art which has always fascinated me. As a result, my work has always been illustrative in nature. Which is why I have chosen to illustrate my own Tarot project.

This is mostly a side activity which has spun off from the illustration. My work has ranged from logo and business card design to brochure and advertising layouts.

With time, this page will host a number of time lapse videos to give an idea of the process I follow in creating some of my work.
